Since I first read the prequel of the Kings of Rittenhouse Series, I wanted to know more about Avery and Emmett! Their epic breakup during a graduation party left me with all sorts of questions about the real reasons for Avery’s actions. During the first two books of the series, the few moments where this couple was in the same spaces, the animosity was so high and the sparks still present. Maya Hughes provided all the answers I wanted in Ruthless King, a remarkable second chance romance bursting with feels, humour and steamy hot scenes!
Avery is a reliable heroine with so much dedication. She’s made difficult decisions in her past that cost her relationship with Emmett. She’s so loyal to her family that sometimes it’s at her own detriment, but it definitely shows the kind of compassionate person she is. Under all this strength, she’s hurting from this big load of secrets she kept for years from her friends and mostly Emmett, the guy she’s never forgotten. Emmett knows that Avery is hiding things from him and he’s determined to unveil the truth about their breakup years earlier. As much as he wants to hate her, she still has the same magnetic pull to him. This summer vacation with friends is the perfect setup for their broken relationship to heal.
I loved Avery and Emmett as individuals, but together they were so interesting too. It’s clear their conflict hides unresolved deep-rooted feelings. They have so much chemistry and turn up the heat. Their intense connection creates such powerful passion, but they also share some really sweet and emotional moments. They just need to expose these long kept secrets and trust each other to make this renewed romance live.
I enjoy in a novel when the supporting characters have a strong presence and it’s certainly the case with this story. I loved having all the Kings together for the summer. It certainly brings funny scenes between friends, but also supportive moments. They’re such a great group of people and rediscovering each one of them was so amazing!
Ruthless King is so far my favorite novel in the series, but I have a feeling that Olivia and Ford will have a very exciting story. With that ending, I’m prepared for something epic for those two. I only have praises for Maya Hughes and this latest addition to the Kings of Rittenhouse Series!
