Never forget your place, always put the Crowne name above all else, and never, ever hurt the Reject.
Especially don’t torment the Reject.

Everything about Heartless Hero had me so impatient to read it: the titillating blurb, the sexy cover and the alluring teasers to only name a few. Bully romance is quite a popular trope these days and Heartless Hero shows originality with a storyline that had me utterly hooked. Mary Catherine Gebhard created two heroes with such intense chemistry and the intrigue of this novel was so gripping!
Abigail Crowne is called the reject for a reason. In her privileged lifestyle she doesn’t quite fit and always rebels against her family. In this gilded environment, love is something inexistent and she’s misunderstood by her family all for power and money. It's truly poignant the way she's hurting for only being herself and trying to live her life!
When Theo enters her life again as her bodyguard after years away, their relationship isn’t what it previously was. The heartbreak of their separation makes them enemies with resentful feelings for each other’s. The sparks are flying in every single of their interaction. Seriously, my kindle was catching fire from all the intense back and forth between those two.
As much as Theo likes to provoke and disrespect Abby with cruel words, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to protect the girl. She’s the only person in his life that ever displayed kindness toward him and under all his hate the old feelings are still present. I loved his dirty mouth and alphaness so much! The authority and dominance he exudes left me in awe and completely smitten. I was living for the passionate moments this couple shared and the emotional ones when they bare their hearts.
As much as the core of Heartless Hero is about second chance, there’s also manipulation, scheming and suspense too surrounding Abby’s future. All of these aspects of the story kept me invested from start to finish. The author certainly achieved to steal my complete attention with this sensational story. Now I just can’t wait to be back in Crowne Point and discover more about the other Crowne family members.

“I’m not like your other guards, Reject, you can’t scare me away. Your secrets are mine.”
He took another step. “Your mind is mine.”
My back bit into the wood. “Your body is mine. How else could I protect you?”
A moment passed forever, all too aware of his body pressed into mine. I tried to control my face, not let on how unnerved I was. Protect me? More like destroy me.
I gave myself away with a hard swallow, and Theo stepped back, a cruel smirk on his lips.
“Get dressed,” he said.
“So you can make mom hate me even more? No thanks. I’ll stay here.”
Today was one of my most favorite days in the entire world, but if Theo wanted me dressed, instinct said I should do the opposite.
A cruel smile passed his lips. “Scared?”
“No. I’m just not in the habit of listening to my bodyguards.”
“Get dressed, or I’ll dress you.”
A ripple of excitement raced up my spine, one I quickly disregarded as shock. “You wouldn’t dare.”
“Want to test me, Reject?”
MARY CATHERINE GEBHARD
I started writing the moment I could read. My first characters were Wibbley and Squig and I used MS Word and clipart to bring them to life when I was a kid in elementary school. I started seriously thinking about being a writer in High School and I remember the day exactly, because it was such an epiphany. I was always so uncertain. You know how everyone was always asking what you wanted to be when you were older? Well I NEVER could decide.
I wanted to be a marine biologist.
An actor.
A FIRE FIGHTER (thank you Joaquin Phoenix in Ladder 49 for that phase).
One day it hit me—A WRITER. I could do it ALL. Then you couldn’t stop me from writing. I penned my first novel at fifteen (but don’t ask me to show it to you, because it’s like I was in competition to beat the thesaurus). When I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, writing became even more important, because it became my therapy. When I wrote my characters, suddenly I wasn’t so alone.
These days you can find me daydreaming about where to travel with my husband, singing in my car, or lost in the newest K drama. And planning my next novel, of course
