TITLE: Dreams of 18 AUTHOR: Saffron A. Kent

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

RELEASE DATE: October 10, 2019

Violet Moore is in love with a man who hates her. Well, to be fair, she kinda deserves it. On her eighteenth birthday, she got drunk and threw herself at him, causing the biggest scandal of their sleepy suburban town. Now, everyone thinks she’s a slut and he has disappeared. Rumor has it that he’s been living up in the mountains of Colorado, all alone and in isolation. But Violet is going to make it right. She’s going to find him and bring him back. No matter how cruel and mean he is. Or how much he hurts her with his cold-hearted and abrasive ways, she won’t give up. And neither will she think about his tempting lips or his sculpted muscles or his strong hands. The hands that she wants on her body, touching her, feeling her skin… The hands that make her want to forget everything and kiss Graham Edwards – Mr. Edwards, actually -- again. Because you don’t go around kissing your best friend’s dad, do you? Even though that’s all you ever dream about.

⭐️ 3.5 "Strawberry Man" Stars ⭐️

Dreams of 18 was an enjoyable read for me. Was it exactly how I expected? To be truly honest no, but I still liked it! As a fan of age gap and forbidden romance, I was anticipating this novel with a real excitement. Saffron A Kent used once again her beautiful writing style to find a voice for her characters.

Violet Moore is a particular young woman. When she sees her new and older neighbor for the first time, an obsession starts. And I say obsession, because it’s what it felt for me this insane infatuation she has for him for two years without even speaking to him. I loved exploring her mind and thoughts and discover about her problems of anxiety and opening up to the world. It certainly brings a profoundness to the story with the complexity of her character with navigating with this fear of the “outside”.

After the kiss that put their life in chaos, Graham moves states away but Violet is determined to apologize. He’s a taciturn man that loves his solitude and he tries to stay away from her by acting cruel and harsh with her. But it’s so difficult because he always felt a pull toward her too. He has culpability about these feelings for her and feels dirty to have those kind of thoughts about a girl half his age. I would have like to read more chapters in his point of view as they were so good and witnessing his conflicting thoughts was amazing.

The second half of the story was where I lost a little interest in the book. The scenes where Violet and Graham finally get physical are so hot and filthy, but not all in a good way in my opinion. I enjoy the dirty moments in a book normally, but it just felt too much and forced between them.

Overall Dreams of 18 is an interesting read where the protagonists grow and are multi-faceted. It wasn’t my favorite book by this author, but she still always manages to bring something unique to her books to make them attention-grabbing. I’m sure many of you readers will love this novel!
