Dark romance is a guilty pleasure of mine! When I first read the synopsis from Verona Blood, I knew I was in for a good time! What a wild ride indeed it was for me! Lili St. Germain crafted with this first novel in the California Blood Series a gripping storyline, action packed and full of depravity, darkness and secrets. Let’s just say that it’s not for the faint of heart! Beware!
Avery Capulet is to be married to a man of her father’s choice! She’s more than ever tired of being under his power. I felt for her desolate situation, but enjoyed seeing her little acts of rebellion. The fact she’s so under the control of her family was so sad. As much as she wants a different life, she can’t betray her family and it’s truly heart-breaking. When she’s kidnapped everything unravels through a sordid story of mystery and decadence.
Rome Montague is fueled by vengeance! Years ago, the Capulet ruined his family and now he’s a junkie living for destroying the mighty Capulet. I loved this flawed character. He doesn’t make excuses for the way he his and only acts like he wants. He’s also enigmatic! I felt there was so much more to discover about him!
The second half of the book was my favorite! Definitely darker and where little revelations are exposed. The thrill of every single action was so intense. A was hooked on every single word, my heart beating so fast from the thrilling suspense. But I also felt gutted by Rome’s tortured feelings for Avery. He’s been hurt by her family and as much as he wants to hate the woman, he can’t and that made those moments poignant and desperate!
Verona Blood is a truly captivating, yet twisted rollercoaster that left me drained by the up and downs! This book gave me the best rush of feels! I’m so prepared for Burn in Your Blood, the next novel in the series. I just can’t wait to discover what happens with Avery and Rome!
