I was really intrigued by Her Defiant Heart when I first read the blurb of this book. It had been a while since my last read by Monica Murphy and this new adult romance based on lies and deception sounded exciting.
After her mother’s abandonment when she was only a baby, Jen struggled with money growing up with her heartbroken dad. Now she’s high set on making that woman pay for her wrongs. She’s on a revenge path and nothing will make her change her mind about this plan. Or so she thinks!
Through a web of lies, Jennifer aka Jensen catches the eyes of the sexy Rhett at her new college. She tries to play him to get closer to her mom, who’s his stepmother and ruin some part of her perfect life. Being heartless and deceiving isn’t always easy she fast realizes when she begins feeling remorse for her growing attraction and feelings for Rhett. I enjoyed how Jen gradually begins to reconsider her motivations and main goal in her devious plan.
I really liked Rhett! He’s really a great guy with Jen, even when she’s acting cold with him. You clearly see he cares and the connection between them is good. He feels she’s hiding something, but he just wants to know her better.
Her Defiant Heart definitely left me on a high with that cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read more about the evolution of Jen and Rhett’s relationship as well as the deceiving plan Jensen orchestrated and where it will lead her.
