The Forbidden is a gripping love story filled with passion, angst and heartache. I enjoyed this read so much. If you make abstraction of the forbidden aspect of the story and only look at the leading couple, they exude an intense magnetism that can’t be denied.
That being said, I don’t completely approve the way their relationship develops, but I understand perfectly the diverging feelings they’re faced with. I think Jodi Ellen Malpas did a strong job writing the inner battles of Annie. The heroine knows that being with Jack is wrong for many reasons and we see her fight this unquestionable pull they share. She wants to be stronger and resist the temptation, but when you meet the perfect man when you weren’t even looking, it’s difficult to turn your back on it.
Jack is also an interesting hero. While he’s in the wrong too in this illicit relationship, I understood his need for Annie. His home situation is difficult and he’s only surviving. Annie bring a new breath into his soul that brings him back to life. When they’re both apart, they’re just so miserable, but they bring a sensuality that’s consuming but not without torment.
I highly recommend The Forbidden for all the emotions I felt while reading. From an extreme to another, Jodi Ellen Malpas delivers a fascinating story!
