My life revolved around two things. Football and my cock. And not necessarily in that order. Being the head football coach for a top university in Texas had its ups and its downs. The ups? Endless women to f*ck. The downs? The politics that came with the job. From the moment Aubrey Cain walked into my office, she turned my world upside down. Being forced to have her follow me around for a month was going to be a pain in the ass. Especially since I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her. The best I’d hoped to come out of this was a few nights with her in my bed. I never imagined she’d be the game changer. Brett Owens was my assignment. Head football coach for a top college, bad boy reputation, short temper, and handsome good looks should have scared me off. But I was tougher than that. From the first words out of his obnoxious, dirty-talking mouth, I knew it was going to be a long month. It wasn’t five minutes after meeting him, he hit on me. If only I had known his blue eyes would haunt my dreams and awaken a desire inside of me I never knew existed. This was business. There was no way I would be tempted by him no matter how good looking he was or how many things he whispered in my ear. He was only supposed to be my assignment. Not the man who threatened to destroy both my heart and my career. I would follow along with his playbook for now. But who would end up winning was anyone’s guess.

The Playbook was my first read by Kelly Elliott and it left me with a very good impression. I’d been hearing about how amazing her books were for a long time now and decided to finally see what all the hype is about.

This story is a sports romance with a small town charm to it. When Aubrey Cain is sent by her employer to follow the sexy football coach Brett Owens for an article she has to write, she’s decided to prove her worth and be upgraded to the NFL coverages. Brett is known to be a player and to have a dirty mouth. Those are facts Aubrey soon realizes are the truth, but he also reveals so much more than this cocky façade.

I loved this couple relationship from the start. At first they have this undeniable spark that keeps them captivated by each other. With her job at risk, Aubrey tries to keep their relationship professional, but the desire and specks of kindness Brett shows, make it more and more difficult to not cross that line. Their banters are filled with an undercurrent of craving and coach Owens doesn’t miss a chance to use his dirty mouth. He’s more than what we see on the surface and Bree succeeds in revealing the true Brett. Deep down, he’s a sweet, humble and charming small town guy with a heart of gold. I appreciated this side of him so much and mixed with his dirtier side it made the perfect alpha southern male.

Their attraction is intense and let’s just say that some scenes are very steamy while being profoundly touching at the same time. You clearly feel the passion and feelings between these two. There’s also a few obstacles in their romance that kept the story entertaining and packed with tension by moments.

The Playbook is a delightful story! Kelly Elliott is definitely an author I look forward to read more.
