Firefly is a deeply emotional novel! I brawled my eyes out with this poignant story. Yes, it’s a romantic suspense and there’s a lot of thrill in this book, but Molly McAdams has the ability to play with her readers’ feelings and she once again succeeded in making me feel a lot.
Firefly is the impossible love story between Lily O’Sullivan, the princess of the Irish-American mob, and Demetri Borello, the head of the mafia and her family’s number one enemy. Their romance is really a slow burn like I love them. They’re unaware of the other’s real identity, but their connection is so perceptible across the pages. It got my heart fluttering from this profound connection they have.
There’s so much secrets and mystery between Lily and Dare. They can’t open up like they would like, but it doesn’t diminish the inferno burning between them. You feel the heartache in every interaction they have and only hope for a happily ever after that sounds improbable. The biggest obstacle to their relationship is Kieran, Lily’s boyfriend and right-hand of her father, who’s overprotective of her. She feels like she’s suffocating under his incessant protectiveness and it’s part of the reason Dare slowly steal her heart and Kieran lose it. It’s really agonising to witness this kind of emotional turmoil from our heroine.
I was riveted to my book all read long, but the last quarter was unputdownable and I found myself finishing this incredible story in the early morning after shedding a lot of tears of heartbreak.
Molly McAdams’s writing is at her best. She put all the feels, anticipation, torment and passion possible in Firefly. This romantic suspense is a real delight from start to finish!
