I was really excited to finally read a new J.L. Berg’s book and Fraud sounded promising from the blurb only. The book started a little too slow in my opinion, but once the story was well installed, I really enjoyed it.
Kate is a new author making sensation under a pen name and nobody except her best friend / agent knows her real identity. Killian, a journalist in search of the next big scoop to help his failing career, tracks her down after discovering the truth. He has a deceiving scheme planned to get to know her secrets, but nothing goes as expected when he meets her face to face and he feels an amazing connection to her.
I enjoyed the way Kate and Killian are together. Kate is very shy, but with Killian she seems to be comfortable and open up to him. I liked that Killian realized very early after meeting her that he can’t go with his insincere plan. But the longer he keeps hiding his true motives, the harder he falls for Kate and makes it more difficult to reveal his truths. With the intensity of their relationship always growing, I was anxious to read the part when the verity about Killian’s fraud would come to light.
J.L. Berg wrote here a sweet and charming story with a plotline that kept me entertained.
