Fourth Debt takes the Indebted Series on a new tangent with a lot of suspense and a darker ambiance than the previous tomes. With the huge cliffhanger we were left on, this fifth book certainly starts with a massive bang.

My soul broken but refusing to abandon a body that was hours away of succumbing to the black shroud of everlasting sleep.”
Nila is completely destroyed by the events that took place at the end of Third Debt. She’s filled with vengeful thoughts and a fierce desire to make Cut and Daniel pay for their crime. She tries to stay strong, but slowly with every treatment she receives from the fourth debt, she loses her fight. It was kind of depressing and sad to see this resilient heroine that I respected in the prior novels losing her light, hope, faith and desire to live.

But no matter how much I tried to let go… I couldn’t.”
Jethro is left for dead, but miraculously survives. While he’s miraculously healing from his near fatal wound, he only thinks about Nila and going back to protect her. There’s no doubt about his feelings for Nila with all his barriers fallen and his dedication to her is sublime. It’s interesting seeing this new side of Jethro, completely exposed and fully disclosing his feelings.
“I’m going to spend the rest of my life making it up to you, Nila, and proving that you took a coward and made him want to me a hero. Your hero.”
The long awaited reunion of this hopeless couple happens late in the book and is filled with swoony moments from Jethro’s part, but also anguishing from Nila. She’s only a shadow of the woman she was and Jet tries to bring her back to life. This brings really poignant moments!

While it wasn’t my favorite book of the Indebted Series, Fourth Debt is still very enjoyable. It’s more psychological and shows the changes happening within each character and the switch in their beliefs. The last few pages revealed a last novel that will be once again full of action I’m assured.
