From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new,
sexy standalone novel.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him.
Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions.
I didn’t think he’d call me back.
I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become.
Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets.
Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake.
I really enjoyed Drunk Dial by Penelope Ward. While I had some difficulty connecting with the story at first, I gradually couldn’t help but fall in love with Landon and Rana’s poignant story.
It’s clear from the first chapters that these two have baggage. Their life story is filled with heartbreak, regret and low self-esteem. I liked that Rana as well as Landon were flawed characters and owned the mistakes of their past. They don’t try to make excuses and you feel their torment about the bad choices they made and they’re only trying to move on from them. Their reconnection after thirteen years via a drunk dial is only the beginning of a challenging journey into discovering themselves.
The slow rebuild of their relationship over texting and phone calls was funny and sweet. They completely reawakened this friendship right where it was left off years before, being so comfortable with each other. Landon is really a swoony hero that made my heart melt from all his tender attention toward Rana. I really enjoyed there wasn’t any over the top drama happening in their romance. It’s not a perfect love story, they have hurdle along the way, but I felt they were both very mature about the way they handled these obstacles.
Drunk Dial is an endearing story with all the right elements. It’s funny, sweet, emotional and everything in between. Penelope Ward penned here another beautiful story!
