This book left me really conflicted! Like with her other books, K.L. Kreig has a way to completely gut you with the emotions flowing through the pages of this story. More than one time, I found myself choked up by all the feelings Maverick is faced with. Torn between two brothers she’s loved her whole life, but differently. The Shepard brothers are just irresistible.
While there are parts of the book I completely loved and other parts I struggled with. I must admit that I’m generally not a fan of love triangles, so it can explain why I failed to connect completely with the story. The back and forth between the past and present kind of broke the flow of the story for me. The mystery behind the betrayal of Killian was the biggest suspense of the book, and I’ll admit that I was very impress with the revelation. It’s the way to that moment that felt too long for me.
However, I loved the chemistry Maverick has with both brothers, and during all my read I really didn’t know who she would end up with. Kael and Killian are different, but both devoted to her! They deceived her, but both love her so much that the end result was unforeseeable. It was an okay read for me that the big reveal and the way the emotion is flawlessly written saved in the end.
